Into the second half of the bowl, the pepper and earth mellow out a bit and I can detect hints of orange peel. It is not the same as CC but these are top shelf red's. While quite good, I prefer a more complex straight Virginia for my normal rotation. Its very tangy, dark fruit sweet with a lot of earth and wood, very mild grass, bread, vinegar, floralness, natural sugar, tart lemon and citrus notes, along with slightly more than mild spice. No, but it holds a certain place in the pipe community. There is a tanginess to the smoke that is always in the background and pronounced on the retrohale. I love Peterson Billiards and have examples of all the common sizes, including another X105. When you light it up, it starts out fairly sweet and is bready while having hints of hay. I've got several example's from all the most readily available blenders/brands of varying percentages of leaf. Since that time I've only smoked about 4 bowls from the tin..BUT NOW this is a far more robust red Virginia than I notice in other C&D blends, this one is very complex and has a certain amount of a nose and mouth tinglethe good kind..later down the bowl,it takes on a more bready essence,yet the sour and tangy still lingers..it is a good smoke for more experienced pipers..nic hit is mediumI recommend this one for pipers who wish to explore the true nature of VA tobaccos and how varied they tend to behave.
